SCIENCE DAY

On 15 March, Brackensdale Infant School held a ‘Science Day’ across the whole School. The children took part in an observational walk, where unusual items were hidden. Lots of investigations and predictions of results. Learning and fun.


Fundamentals Festival

On Tuesday 9th February, a group of children from Key Stage 1 attended a Fundamentals Festival organised by Derby School Sports Partnership. The children participated in a range of activities including cycling, football, gymnastics, seated volleyball and yoga.


Padley Centre – Thanksgiving Concert

On Wednesday 14 October, Year 2 children performed at Derby Cathedral to celebrate 30 years of the Padley Centre. Padley is a Derby-based charity founded in 1985 delivering services to people with complex needs.    


Inspection by Ofsted

Brackensdale Infant School was inspected by Ofsted on Wednesday 22nd and Thursday 23rd April 2015. The inspectors judged the School to be ‘Good’ in all areas. School Sports Award

We are proud to announce that the School has been awarded the Key Stage 1 School Sports Award Silver.  This is a prestigious award granted by the Derby City School Sports Partnership and recognises the quality of sports and physical education provision provided right across the School. Singing

Year 1 have been lucky enough to have enjoyed some wonderful singing sessions this term led by a professional musician, Rachel Wilkes from the Derby and Derbyshire Music Partnership. We have learned how to warm up in preparation for singing and have enjoyed warm up games and songs. We have explored pitch and have used a pitch pole to experience high and low sounds.

Yoga Bugs – Reception

Children in our two Reception classes – Chimps and Penguins – are participating in the Yoga Bugs programme. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Yoga Bugs classes bring stories to life through specially developed moves inspired by yoga. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Yoga Bugs combines fun with exercise. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The children develop techniques for breathing, relaxation and visualisation.


Olympic Athlete in School

We were very excited to have Olympic swimmer Grant Turner in School on Tuesday 27 January 2015. He was accompanied by Jo Jackson, who is also an Olympic swimmer. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Grant and Jo involved all staff and children in a fitness circuit. Festivals – Diwali – 23 October

During the year, the children learn about festivals and on Thursday 23 October they found out about Diwali – the Hindu festival – known as ‘the festival of lights’. Parents visited classrooms in the afternoon to find out what the children have learnt.
